A BIG thank you to all the dedicated attendees who weathered the storm with us at the Innovation Cafe’s Summer Kickoff Networking event on June 25.  It was a full house at the Cocoa Beanery where connections and collaborations were happening all around! Social Entrepreneurship into scalable and impactful business ventures

The Innovation Cafe celebrated Tax Day with an engaging and enlightening presentation from Khanjan Mehta, founding director of the Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship Program at Penn State University. Khanjan shared his insights on social entrepreneurship, innovation and how to create scaleable business ventures while positively impacting society.

Intrapreneurship – Redefining business as usual

On March 26, the Innovation Cafe welcomed Marion Chamberlain, nationally recognized speaker, business strategist and corporate trainer. Marion shared with the Innovation Cafe the value of intrapreneurship, tips on how to serve as an organizational innovation leader and impact growth by becoming an entrepreneur on the job. Intrapreneurship also serves as a launch pad to become a full-blown entrepreneur.

Join us at the Cocoa Beanery June 19 for the summer networking event

MGCB_CanoeOvalJoin us for our Innovation Café summer networking event on Thursday, June 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cocoa Beanery in Hummelstown, Pa. Come for great networking, music, and samples from the area’s newest start-up, the small-batch brewing company, Mount Gretna Craft Brewery.

The event will include complimentary craft beer tastings from Mount Gretna Craft Brewery and appetizers from the Cocoa Beanery. Blues singer and songwriter Danielle Miraglia will also perform as part of theHershey Farmers Market Summer Concert Series. The Farmers Market was established in 2010 to increase accessibility to healthy, locally-grown foods in the community and sponsors a series of free concerts every Thursday.

PA Department of Health secretary, Penn State Hershey spin-off company share updates at May event

Innovation Cafe’s May event gave attendees an opportunity not only to network and learn how to translate scientific discoveries into marketable products, but also to hear presentations from prominent individuals working in the life science industry. Pennsylvania Department of Health secretary Michael Wolf discussed the state of the life science and healthcare industries in Pennsylvania. Later, representatives from the Penn State Hershey spin-off company Oncoceutics shared an update about the significant milestones they recently achieved in cancer therapeutics. Innovation Cafe participants learn to ‘perfect their investor pitch’

The March 26 Innovation Cafe event gave attendees the opportunity to speak with nationally recognized innovation and entrepreneurial mentors Merom Klein, Ph.D. and Louise Yochee Klein, Psy.D. They discussed interactions with investors, from perfecting the original pitch for a technology to the steps to take after an investor shows interest in funding the technology. The half-day workshop also focused on accessing the commercial potential of an academic finding and how to proceed from that point. Are you looking to fund an early stage technology in Central PA? Don’t miss the next Innovation Cafe!

The Innovation Cafe is going big in 2014! On February 12, we will be hosting a SUPER SIZED event focused on finding capital for early-stage technologies in Central Pennsylvania.

The program will begin with networking and a light breakfast at 8:00 a.m. in the Penn State Hershey University Conference Center.  Michael Hund, J.D., attorney at McNees Wallace & Nurick, LLC will kick off the program discussing the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and guidelines for soliciting investors.

Kelly Wylam, director of the Innovation Partnership will share opportunities and resources available for early-stage companies to secure federal funding. The goal of the Innovation Partnership is to help early-stage technology companies in Pennsylvania secure federal funding.

To conclude the program, a panel of investment experts including; Mel Billingsley, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Life Sciences Greenhouse of Central Pennsylvania, Steve Brawley, president and CEO of Ben Franklin Technology PArtners of Northern and Central Pennsylvania, and Ira Wallace, M.D., M.B.A, who serves as the regional vice president for Keiretsu Forum Mid-Atlantic.
